The
NSDTR or “Toller” as they are better known, are still a
fairly rare breed within Australia although they are rapidly
gaining in popularity due to their wonderful natures and
versatile abilities.
They are
medium in size, have a low maintenance water resistant coat
that only requires a quick brush through about once a week and
adjust well to multi species pet households. They also are one
of the most appealing looking dog breeds (not that we are in
any biased here at Novastar) we think that it has a lot to do
with that infectious big Toller grin that does it!
The
Toller
has a great sense of humour and fun and they love to be
involved in any activity that engages either their minds or
bodies. They are an extremely agile breed that enjoys being
active, whether it is chasing a ball in the back yard or being
involved in any dog related activities. Tollers are easy to
train, they love to swim, compete or preform and have excelled
in most of the dog related disciplines i.e. Obedience and
Agility trials, fly ball and Frisbee comps as well as making
outstanding dancing with dogs competitors and trick training
too. In fact there really is not much that a Toller would not
be unwilling to do for you as long you are willing to take the
time to teach them, they are very fast learners and respond
exceptionally well to positive reinforcement training methods.
They
are a very family orientated breed that does require attention
so don’t consider adopting a Toller if you don’t feel that
you would have the time and energy to interact with them on a
daily basis.
